Pahela Boishakh

Pahela Boishakh

Pahela Boishakh is the first day of Bangla New Year. It is a part and parcel of  Bangalee culture. The day is a public holiday. The day bears a great significance for our national life. It is deeply connected to our national unity and identity. We celebrate the day with traditional festivities. The Boishakhi Mela which is held on this day is perhaps the largest festival of Bangalee culture. People from all walks of life join this festival in a joyous mood. Urban people try to keep a while away from their blind mimicry of western culture and tend to be a Bangalee at least on this day. In villages people pass the day meeting one another. giving and receiving invitation. In a word the day is celebrated traditionally. People waking up early in the morning take a bath and wear their traditional clothes. Women wear red-bordered saris and adorn themselves with colorful churies(bangles) and flowers. Men wear paijama and panjabi. We also eat our traditional food panta ilish on this day. Ramna Batamul (a place) is the central point of the celebration where Chayanat (an organization) begins their program with the Tagore (a poet) song. Moreover almost all of the cultural organizations observe the day across the country. Radio TV arrange special  programs on this day. National dailies also bring out special supplements. The celebration spots assume colorful appearance. The places overflow with merriment. Different kinds of traditional things of our country are sold at these places. We unitedly enjoy this day all day long. So, on this day we should bear our traditional cultures only and we should give up bad things.
